Penn State’s and other phone directories are available online through the Internet. Individuals who establish an affiliation with Penn State as a student or an employee are automatically entered into the directory database. This process normally occurs within one week of entry to Penn State. In addition to information commonly found in telephone books (names, phone numbers and addresses), the directory also contains e-mail addresses and links to websites, if they exist.
If you prefer not to be listed in Penn State’s directory, then you must request removal.
Below are names and descriptions of the fields available in the directory database. See Penn State Directory for additional information.
Official information fields
To request confidentiality or change the information in any of these fields, students must contact the Office of the University Registrar; employees must contact their Human Resources representatives.
Official information is in bold in the table below.
Unofficial information fields
Any changes made via ITS Secure Server do not change your official University records and are for information purposes only.
Unofficial information is displayed in italics in the table below.
|Officiality||Field Name||Description and Notes|

|Unofficial||Nickname||This field displays another name commonly used to address you in writing or speech (for example, Joe for Joseph). |Official||This field represents your firstname.lastname@example.org.|
|Unofficial||Alternate E-mail ID
|This field represents your alias(es). The alias allows you to change the user ID part of your e-mail address to a different name, which others may use to send e-mail to you. You may specify no more than three unique aliases. You may change this entry to any unique value. This means that it may not be an alias used by someone else, and it cannot be a part of a name or nickname that someone else has (such as a first name or last name by itself). It also cannot be an Access Account user ID assigned to a person or reserved for system or service (for example, helpdesk or security). You may not choose an alias that adheres to the format of a potential Access Account user ID, whether or not the user ID is assigned or not. If you attempt to use an alias that is not unique, the Directory will not process the change.|
(your forwarding e-mail address)
|This field is used to forward your e-mail to the mail server you use. Mail sent to you at psu.edu (for example, to email@example.com) will be forwarded to the address displayed in this field. Once a user obtains an Access Account and his/her e-mail services are activated, mail is automatically setup for either email.psu.edu or mail.psu.edu unless otherwise specified. Unless you plan to use another server (such as a departmental server or third-party ISP), you will not need to change this information. Below are examples of field contents based on how the mail is handled.
You may change this field to forward your e-mail to any other valid e-mail server, such as a departmental server or a third-party ISP. A valid entry in this field forwards e-mail addressed to firstname.lastname@example.org another specified address. To change your forwarding e-mail address, choose the “Change forwarding e-mail address” utility via the ITS Secure Server.
